A Geologist is an expert in the field of geology, the study of what the Earth. They work to understand the history of the planet we live on, to better predict the future, and to explain current occurrences. Geologists are also hired to survey land and draw up safe building plans.
Sudipta Sengupta is the first female geologist from India to be working in the Antarctica. She is also the only woman to be awarded a Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Earth Sciences. She did her BSc, MSc and PhD from Jadavpur University. She worked as a geologist in the Geological Survey of India between 1970 and 1973. She then carried out post-doctoral research work for the next three years at the Imperial College, London. She has also authored many best-selling books recounting her travels.
